About Justin

Justin Martin is a law student and writer. Justin has published and lectured on the history of the American Civil Rights Movement. He received his M.A. in History and B.A.s in African & African American Studies and Political Science from LSU. Justin has served as Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the LSU History Graduate Student Association (HGSA), President of the Society of African and African American Studies (SAAAS) at LSU, Vice President of the LSU Graduate Student Association (GSA), Secretary and Education Committee Chair for LSU's Chapter of NAACP, and student senator and Speaker of the LSU Student Senate. He has also served on a number of university committees concerning student fees, life, and affairs, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. 


Justin’s research interests focus on the intersection of race, history, politics, and public policy. He is passionate about bridging the gap between the academy and the community, and was a Leadership LSU 2022 cohort member, summer 2022 and spring 2023 Graduate Scholar in the LSU Center for Community Engagement, Leadership, and Learning, 2023 Happy Award winner for outstanding contributions to service learning, and AAAS Changemaker award winner. He plans to pursue a career in public service after completing his graduate and law degrees, and aims to use his experience in the non-profit space, knowledge gained in rigorous academic work, and experience in coalition-building to build a more prosperous and inclusive future.
